Juice Cleanse and Bahamas Vacation

Wednesday, August 7, 2013

Have you ever gone on a vacation and come home feeling like your arteries are clogged with French fries? Yep, definitely feeling it right now. I just went to the Bahamas with my in-laws and our diet consisted of coconut French toast and pina colada after pina colada. Do I regret it? No. Was it worth every calorie? Yes. Hey, a girl has got to live!

But now that I’m back to real life I want to do my body some good. I’ve never done a juice fast before, in fact I’ve always been fairly hesitant about them. I always thought, “Oh it’s just water weight that their losing” or “That can’t be healthy for your body to eat less than 1,200 calories a day” or “It’s not healthy to lose more than 2 lbs in a week, you’ll gain it right back!”

Well my friend Jessica introduced me to the book 7 lbs in 7 days by Jason Vale and it’s totally changed my perspective on juice cleansing. Yep, I said cleansing, not fasting! That’s one of the things the author explains at the beginning of the book, when you say the word “fast” you are meaning an absent of nutrients. Within the next week you will get more nutrients than you probably have in the past couple of months! The juices have all kinds of superfoods in them, including kale, spinach, wheatgrass, and countless vegetables and fruits. Many of the juices have avocado in them, which is not only so good for you and delicious but helps ensure that you get around 1,200 calories a day.

The juices are so nutrient rich and life changing, that when people stick to the program and drink only these juices for a whole week it’s been curing life long diseases! Now I know what you’re thinking, (and I’m pretty sure you’re thinking, “sounds like a bunch of BS…”) Nope. I’m for real. I even know people who have done the program and it’s cured their arthritis. People state that they don’t feel hungry while on the program and their energy levels increase ten fold.

So weather you are doing it to say thanks and reward your body for being so good to you you’re whole life, or you are doing it to lose weight, you are in it for the win. The book states that when sticking to the program women lose 7 lbs in a week and men lose 10 lbs in a week (on average). The guy is from England and even does juicing retreats in Turkey for a week where people make the juices for a week and you just work out… umm… sounds good to me!

You have about 5 juices a day, the point is to never let yourself get hungry because that’s when cravings kick in and you set yourself up for failure. I also think it’s probably easier to do the juice cleanse without a partner. My husband is doing it with me; I tried to start the cleanse yesterday and got all the way to dinner time before he convinced me to go to Red Robin with him (I was having some serious French fry cravings!) but now that we’ve had our “last supper” we are hitting the concrete. Today, Wednesday August 7th to Wednesday August 14th. I’ll keep you updated on how much weight I’m losing and how hard it is! Wish me luck!

Here are some pictures of us at the Bahamas! News is that we are going back next year… That gives me all year to prepare and get the body I want. Can’t forget, summer bodies are made in the winter! No excuses!
