Tips for Growing Longer and Thicker Eyelashes

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

I love eyelashes. Is that weird? I've been wanting to do this post for a while and I finally got around to it. Six crucial tips for growing your very own fabulous lashes. It can be done, and done without those bank breaking eyelash extensions! Here are my tips!

1. Lilash

  • This is my number one, shout it from the rooftops, swear by it, secret for growing longer eyelashes. No seriously, if you want longer thicker eyelashes you have to buy this. I know at least 6 girls that use it and every single one of us has had amazing results.

  •  If you know someone that has a cosmetology license then they can get it from the beauty supply store for you for just $40. If you don't, or your store doesn't carry it then you can get it on overstock.com for $60 here. Overstock is the cheapest place I have been able to find it without a cosmetology license… I've seen it priced between $80-$120 at other places.
  • I've used Lattise and Lilash… and I prefer Lilash!
  • If you live in the UK I have friends that has access to Lilash… buy it here.

2. Biotin

  • You've probably heard that biotin helps the hair on your head grow longer and stronger… but guess what? It does the same for your eyelashes! Biotin is a B vitamin that helps your hair, skin, AND nails. It's pretty much the beauty supplement if you ask me. Take 3000 mcg per day and you should notice results within the next 3 months… if you still aren't seeing results then you can take as much as 5000 mcg. It doesn't just make your eyelashes grow longer, but it makes them grow in thicker and promotes growth of additional eyelash follicles.

3. Iron

  • Have you noticed hair loss or breakage? Whether the hair loss is your eyelashes, eyebrows, or the head on your hair, it could be the result of low iron. If you're noticing symptoms of low iron (also known as anemia) it would be wise to have a blood test performed by your doctor to diagnose anemia and begin increasing your daily consumption of iron or taking an iron supplement.
  • Eating a diet rich in iron helps promote eyelash growth.
  • If your doctor does recommend an iron supplement take it with orange juice. The vitamin C in orange juice helps promote the absorption of iron.

4. Mascara

  • A good mascara can make all of the difference when it comes to making your eyes pop. I've tried TONS of mascaras and Maybelline Rocket Volum' Express is my favorite one. It goes on thicker and doesn't smudge or crumble off as the day goes on.
  • Don't be afraid to do a few coats of mascara. I usually do at least 3 to 4 coats… I'll do one coat, then put foundation on as it's drying. Do another coat, and then do another part of my make up…. you get the point.

5. Blow dry your eyelashes

  • This is one of my biggest secrets… and most effective. Blow drying your eyelashes. I'm not kidding… you put the mascara on and while it's still wet position the blow dryer underneath your eyelashes so it blows your eyelashes up and out while lengthening them. The wet mascara is blown up to the tips of your eyelashes… almost acting as an extension. I don't do this every day, but if I'm wanting my eyelashes to be really defined then I will. Just remember to keep the blowdryer on COOL while you're blowdrying them… you don't want to singe your eyelashes and eyebrows off!

6. Eyelash curler

  • Everyone has their own technique to the eyelash curler. Some say to heat the eyelash curler with the blow dryer before curling your eyelashes. Some say to curl your eyelashes before putting on mascara. Well I say curl your eyelashes AFTER putting on your mascara *gasp*!
  • I know, I know. I've heard it before, curling your eyelashes after mascara will pull your eyelashes out. Here is the tip, make sure that your eyelash curler is always free from mascara build up BEFORE you curl your eyelashes. The build up is what causes the eyelashes to stick to the curler and be pulled.
  • I prefer to curl my eyelashes after putting on mascara because the mascara helps the eyelashes maintain the curled shape.
